Display the Results of Multiple-Response Questions
This problem comes up
a lot in survey research. Instead of having a question where the respondent
chooses one answer from multiple choices, the question asks the respondent
to check all answers that apply. These answers are then stored in
multiple variables, which makes them hard to display in meaningful
tables.
Output 14.8 illustrates
the problem. It shows the answers to a five-item multiple-response
question. Respondents were asked: "Why did you choose to shop
in our store? (check all that apply)." In this format, you cannot
compare the response rates easily.
