The Sharing Contract

The sharing contract allows users to share data items between apps. This is one of the key features of Windows apps and it allows the user to create ad hoc workflows using apps that have no knowledge of each other and that only share data formats in common.

Two apps are required to participate in the sharing contract. The app that is the share source possesses one or more items of data that the user wants to share. Windows presents the user with a list of apps, known as share targets, that are capable of processing that data, and the user picks the one they want to receive the items from the share source.
