16. Mixing Down and Mastering

Mixing down is the final stage in a recording project. In the mixdown process, you render your recording into a final stereo mix that includes all audio and MIDI tracks, plus any effects and automation you’ve applied to them. You can record the final mix within Pro Tools by either bouncing to disk or bus-recording it, or you can output it to an external device such as a CD recorder.

This chapter covers methods for recording a final mix within Pro Tools and creating an MP3 file of a mix. It also discusses mastering, the process of optimizing a final mix for reproduction.
