15. Automating Mix Controls
All but the simplest mixes involve adjustments to mix controls during the course of the session. Pro Tools automation gives you the ability to record these adjustments in real time, reproducing them exactly when you play back the session. It also lets you view and edit automation data in graphic form alongside audio or MIDI, using the same tools.
This chapter provides an overview of the different types of automation and the various ways to display them. It also describes the automation modes that determine how your moves are captured, the special editing commands for working with automation data across tracks, and how to automate send controls and plug-in parameters.
