Customizing Your Session: I/O Setup

An understanding of Pro Tools’ signal flow is critical to using this powerful DAW. At the heart of signal flow is the I/O (Input/Output) Setup dialog box.

Setting Up Inputs

When you created this session, you chose Stereo Mix as your I/O (Input/Output) setting. This I/O setting is Pro Tools’ generic setup for stereo work. Although it works fine as is, you can customize it to match your own studio’s setup and boost your productivity right from the start! Let’s begin by taking a closer look at the input setup for your studio—in other words, the connections going into your audio interface, and from there to the Pro Tools software environment.
