The Last Word
When WPF introduced its 3D model, the fit and finish was impressive. There was a range of useful conveniences, including hit testing support, the ability to put interactive 2D controls on 3D objects, integrated animation for manipulating shapes and moving the camera, and even some handy code to let users rotate a 3D object with the mouse. By comparison, Silverlight's 3D feature is a mix of great power and slight awkwardness. Rather than create a new, truly Silverlight-integrated approach, the creators of Silverlight wedged a powerful piece of Microsoft XNA into the Silverlight universe, and the rough edges show. But the result—true hardware-accelerated 3D in a browser—is nothing short of revolutionary.
