Let’s look at SharePoint in the past to see how it has evolved to where it is now. SharePoint had modest beginnings in 2001 at a time when the Internet was finally being noticed by the business community as something that could enhance communication and sharing within their organizations, similar to the way academic institutions around the world used it for years. At first, the rush was simply to build web sites that were no more than elaborate business cards for the organizations that commissioned them. There were very few real web applications.
