Elastic Block Storage

In the last chapter, we learned how to launch and manage instances. In this chapter we will focus on the volumes, or disks, attached to the instance. We will learn how to customize and add additional volumes at launch. Then we will look at modifying the volumes after launch.

This chapter will also cover snapshots. Snapshots are a point-in-time copy of a volume, often used for backups. Snapshots can be used to create copies of volumes or to recover from a disaster. We will talk about using snapshots to create a backup of a volume and how to restore a volume when a disaster occurs.
