Chapter 21. Trace and Diagnostics
In this chapter, we will discuss methods for obtaining trace and diagnostic information from a RAC cluster. This chapter covers trace file locations, DBMS_MONITOR, and ORADEBUG.
DBMS_MONITOR is a package that was introduced in Oracle 10.1 that greatly simplifies and standardizes the commands required to enable and disable trace.
ORADEBUG is an undocumented utility, invoked from SQL*Plus, which allows users with the SYSDBA privilege to obtain a significant amount of additional trace and diagnostic information. A subset of this information is also available using the ALTER SESSION and ALTER SYSTEM commands.
