In this appendix, we will describe third-party clustering solutions and their relationships to Oracle RAC, with particular emphasis on PolyServe Matrix Server.

Clusterware

The term clusterware is used to describe a number of different technologiesso many, in fact, that the term is commonly misunderstood and thus misused. In the context of Oracle RAC, clusterware takes the form of two shared libraries that provide node membership services and internode communication functionality when dynamically linked with Oracle executables.
