Looking Forward, a Standard for Performance

In Chapter 4 we built a JavaScript library to track ad hoc code and benchmark functions. This is a great tool to gather timing metrics and extrapolate performance gains through coding styles, as you’ll see in the coming chapters.

So far we’ve seen how to build our own tools, or use existing tools to gather the data that we need in order to measure performance, but now we will look at the work that the W3C has been doing to craft a standard for tracking performance metrics in browsers.
