Working with Alternative User Interface Frameworks

The navigation framework isn't the only user interface framework available for Silverlight (although it is the only one with support out of the box). Other alternatives that you may wish to consider include the following:

  • Prism: This open source framework is for creating modular applications and corresponding guidance dictating patterns and practices for doing so. You can download it at http://compositewpf.codeplex.com.
  • nRoute Framework: This open source framework created and maintained by Rishi Oberoi describes itself as a “composite application framework for creating MVVM-style applications in Silverlight, WPF, and Windows Phone 7.” You can download it at http://nroute.codeplex.com.
