Historically, technology has taken the form of a double-edged sword. Opinions regarding its potential benefits have ranged from Luddite distrust to nerdish enthusiasm. But taken as a whole, technology has largely facilitated the greater well-being of society. The exceptions have occurred when insufficient care was taken in understanding a technology's potential dangers and, accordingly, minimizing the negatives while maximizing the positive features of a particular application.
