Considering the amount of information and the Internet-based Web services available on the Internet, it is easy to see why application developers would want to take advantage of the Internet. The downside, of course, is that applications could inadvertently transmit sensitive information over the Internet, making it susceptible to interception by untrustworthy individuals. Some enterprises even want no automatic communication with the Internet whatsoever. For example, government agencies involved in secret research are wary of any information leaving the confines of their research facility.
