NTFS File and Directory Settings
A feature of Windows NT and Windows 2000 is the availability of a new type of file system, NTFS. NTFS has built-in security options that allow you to protect your files. Unlike the Windows 95/98 FAT file system, you can now set security over files and directories on your machine using the NTFS file system. By default, any new folders created on an NTFS volume extend full control to file permissions for the group Everyone. By default, every user on your system is a member of the Everyone group. Any subdirectories or file additions inherit these settings. As new directories and files are created, the permissions should be reviewed and set accordingly.
