This chapter has looked at the business knowledge, personal skills and data engineering expertise needed by data administrators and the deeper technical knowledge and personal skills needed by database and repository administrators. Some possible options for the positioning of the data management function and its data administration, database administration and repository administration elements within the organisational hierarchy were also investigated.
