As we saw in Chapter 3, repository administration is concerned with the management and control of the software in which ‘information about information’ is stored, manipulated and defined. A repository administrator is, therefore, providing a database administration service to the data management function. The repository administrator needs to follow all of the database administration procedures and techniques discussed in Chapter 9. This chapter expands on the roles of repositories or other software associated with the handling of metadata.
