THE BENEFITS OF DATA MANAGEMENT

Many benefits are claimed for data management. Nearly all these benefits make sound business sense and can be recognised as such. Unfortunately, not all of them can be related to direct cost savings. It therefore requires a degree of faith on the part of senior management that, when starting a data management initiative, the end result justifies the cost and the effort.

Every organisation is different. It is useful to consider the potential benefits in two areas:

  • those that are business related;

  • those that are related to information technology and systems.
