When the Going Gets Tough
The other day it struck me just how much my emotional state can alter my entire reality. I had sunk into a particularly bad mood after checking my emails and seeing that my collaborator on this book didn’t like a section of the most recent chapter I’d sent him (what a jerk), I hadn’t heard back from a consulting client who had promised to hire me but kept delaying the final decision (the rat), and I’d heard from my tax accountant that I had grossly underpaid my taxes for last year (the bum). Suddenly I went from a young and confident professional to an abject failure doomed to run out of money in my old age.
