Using the Track Matte Key

The track matte key uses a moving matte, often called a traveling matte. The matte can be a high-contrast, grayscale video clip or an image that you animate with motion settings (Chapter 13), an effect (Chapter 10), or a text roll (Chapter 12). You can also use the Transparency Settings dialog box to create a matte from a clip. Unlike a still-image matte, a moving matte must be arranged in the timeline with the foreground and background clips.

To use the track matte key:

Arrange the clips for the track matte effect in the timeline:
  • Position the background clip in a lower track.

  • Position the foreground clip in the next superimpose track up.
