Viewing the Video Safe Zones

As you learned in Chapter 4 (“Editing Source Clips”), standard television monitors overscan the image, cropping off the outer edges. For this reason, the Monitor window can display NTSC safe zones: reference marks indicating the areas of the screen that are considered to be action-safe and title-safe. It’s only logical that the Title Designer window also displays guides to help you keep the titles you create within the safe zones (Figure 12.11). As you recall, the inner 90 percent of the screen is considered action-safe; the inner 80 percent of the screen is considered title-safe.
