Applying Static and Animated Effects

Adding an effect to a clip is nearly self-explanatory: You simply drag an effect from the Video or Audio palette directly to a clip in the timeline. If the effect has adjustable settings—and most effects do—use the Effect Controls palette or the effect’s settings dialog box to specify values for the effect’s various properties.

When you add an effect to a clip, it’s applied to the entire duration of the clip in the timeline. If you don’t want to alter the whole clip, you can move the first and last keyframes of the effect (see “Modifying Effect Keyframes” later in this chapter) or split the clip (using the razor tool, for example) and apply the effect to only one instance.
