Previewing by Scrubbing

You can see an effect right away by scrubbing, or dragging in the time ruler. Scrubbing is a term borrowed from tape-based audio and video editing. It refers to slowly rolling the tape over the tape heads. As a previewing method, scrubbing the edit line allows you to watch an effect right away, but without audio and not at full playback speed. It’s a great way to spot-check an effect without pausing to render it.

To preview by scrubbing the time ruler:
