Understanding Insert Edits
When an insert edit shifts clips later in time, several factors determine how the clips shift and which tracks are affected. Your choice of source and target tracks can affect how an insert edit works (see “Choosing Source and Target Tracks” earlier in this chapter). In addition, you can choose to lock or unlock tracks. The primary factor that governs how insert edits work, however, is the Shift Tracks option. (To learn more about locking tracks and customizing the timeline, see Chapter 6.)
When you set the Shift Tracks option to shift material in all unlocked tracks, an insert edit causes clips in all tracks of the timeline to move later in time (Figures 5.21 and 5.22). Only locked tracks are immune to insert edits. ...
