Creating a Leader
In addition to accepting a wide variety of source files, Premiere provides several useful clips of its own. You can use some of them to create a leader, a series of shots that typically appear at the beginning of a master tape. The master tape is used to make duplicates (or dubs), and usually contains the following:
30 seconds of black— A black screen without sound keeps the program away from the head, or beginning, of the master tape, which is more prone to damage.
60 seconds of bars and tone— The color bars and reference tone are used by video technicians to faithfully reproduce your program’s video and audio levels.
10 seconds of black— Here, black simply acts as a buffer between the bars and the slate.
