Renaming Clips

After you import a file as a clip, you shouldn’t rename the file on your hard disk. Doing so will ruin your project’s reference to the file, and Premiere won’t be able to locate the file the next time you open the project. Nevertheless, you may still need to identify a clip by another name. Fortunately, you can rename a clip in a project, giving it a name alias for the purposes of editing. Renaming the clip doesn’t affect the source file’s name or interfere with your project’s references. You can restore the original name at any time.

To rename a clip:

Select a clip.
2.
Choose Clip > Set Clip Name Alias, or press - (Mac) or ...
