10. NoEstimate or Do Your Estimates Provide Value?

There’s a discussion in the agile community around “NoEstimates.” This is not literally “no estimates,” but the ability to work in small-enough chunks and show progress so that you don’t need estimates.

In many agile projects, teams spend time using planning poker or t-shirt sizes to determine the relative size of a chunk of work. Planning poker works like this: Using the Fibonacci series, 1, 2, 3, 5, 8, 13, etc., everyone on the team decides how big this piece of work is. If you use t-shirt sizing, you use XXS, XS, S, M, L, XL, XXL.

To use either planning poker or t-shirt sizing means the entire technical team doing the work decides together what the relative size of a feature is.
