Abstract

This part sets the stage for the reader with some interesting observations during the evolution of automation that help put the rest of the book in context, beginning with one of the last large companies to adopt automation. We then get a glimpse into the challenges that automation created as it solved competitive challenges of handling a greater volume of business with less expense from labor.
