Evidence-based practice is founded on the premise that professional ‘practice should be based on up-to-date, valid and reliable research’ (Brice & Hill 2004, p. 13). Evidence-based practice is increasingly being recognized as an important issue in a range of professional contexts, including education (Trinder & Reynolds 2000), occupational therapy (Dysart & Tomlin 2002), nursing (Brown 2009) and librarianship (Booth & Brice 2004).
