CREATING SELF-AWARENESS

If leaders are responding to a calling, as suggested by De Pree (1997), it follows that they must seek to prepare themselves for effective leadership. This is no less true of OD practitioners-as-leaders. They must be able to be with and understand the thoughts and intentions of change participants. This suggests that all activities (what we think, say, and do), whether by the change agent or change participants, are interventions, whether done intentionally or not. Thus, there are movements and transitional actions (small changes) occurring all the time. Regarding transition, De Pree (1997) states:
