Future Development

Here is a list of tasks that we have identified but not yet begun implementing:

  • Enable full redundancy with call state/data sharing/syncing, recognizing multiple SIP Proxies in case of a SIP Proxy failure.

  • Provision through the new Mascarpone system discussed in Chapter 19.

  • Enhance Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP) support.

  • Provide trunk-side support.

  • Port to other platforms.

  • Equalize IP/hostname comparisons.

  • Provide regular expression support for registration using the Restart In Progress (RSIP) message.

  • Enable endpoint auditing.

  • Add digest and Challenge-Handshake Authentication Protocol (CHAP, RFC 1994) authentication.

  • Make the translator fully compliant with the MGCP and SIP stacks.

  • Improve the general stability, robustness, and performance of the translator.

  • Write a Megaco (RFC 3015) version of the translator.
