SMB Shared Directories and Printers

Let UNIX Back Up PC Files

Many Windows PCs do not have a tape drive. Save important Windows files on the UNIX shared directory, and let UNIX back up those files each night automatically.

Many UNIX systems support the SMB protocol that Windows uses to share directories and printers. (The new SMB initiative is now referred to as CIFS—Common Internet Filesystem.) This allows the UNIX system to appear in the Windows Network Neighborhood. The UNIX shared directories can be used to exchange data among Windows PCs. The UNIX printers can be used by the Windows PCs.
