Files are important under UNIX, so read the whole section “Introducing UNIX Files.” The rest of the chapter is mainly about two commands: ls and find. Read the beginning of each section because these are useful commands. Don’t worry that each command has so many different options. Remember that the man command (covered in Chapter 4, “Rules for Entering UNIX Commands”) enables you to look up command options online. Come back to this chapter and read about specific options as you need them.
