The Solaris Desktop

Solaris 7 is an operating system from SunSoft Inc., which is a subsidiary of Sun Microsystems Inc. Underlying Solaris is Sun’s version of UNIX called SunOS (currently version 5.7, which is based on SVR4). Because the previous SunOS version 4.x was based on BSD UNIX, the current SunOS still offers many BSD utilities even though it is a System V (SVR4) type of UNIX. Solaris also includes Sun’s networking additions to UNIX and includes two different GUIs that you can choose from when you log on to the system console.
