UNIX Access
Commercial UNIX tends to run on more expensive computers in data processing departments. Companies and institutions may have terminals where you can log on to a UNIX server. However, you must be given a UNIX account before you can use the UNIX system.
Linux/GNU, and FreeBSD are non-AT&T UNIX that are sold in magazines, at computer swap meets, at PC stores, in technical book stores, via mail order, and via the Internet. You can get a free SCO UNIX license over the Internet from www.sco.com. You can also order the installation media for a modest price. This offer is just for educational, noncommercial purposes. Sun also offers a low-cost, noncommercial version of its operating system, called Solaris x86, for Intel computers.
