Chapter 13Project Estimation and Costing

Introduction

Estimating the size of a software application is not the end of the estimation process but it is the means through which other project parameters can be further evaluated. Sizing the software by different units of measurement, including function points, source lines of code (LOC), and other measures, provides the basic information you can use to derive various project parameters. These parameters include the effort required to complete the project, the elapsed time required, the resources that need to be deployed during various stages of project execution, and finally, the overall cost of the project itself.
