SharePoint Designer is a free tool that you can use to help build and customize your SharePoint site. It can be used to create CSS, master pages, page layouts, and a variety of other file types. This version of SharePoint Designer requires you to have a connection to a SharePoint 2010 site to make any modifications to HTML, CSS, or other types of code. It will not work with SharePoint 2007, so if you are supporting multiple sites in both 2007 and 2010, you can install both versions on the same workstation.
