Business and industrial news can range from a little story about a company employing 30 people making an obscure product not on sale to the general public to a front-page lead about a major closure in a coal-mining area which can throw thousands out of work. Readers’ interest in an industrial story, however limited in extent, is good for circulation but it leaves the reporter no room for error. Many of the interested readers will have personal, first-hand knowledge of what the story is about. Get a minor fact wrong and the reader’s faith in the story is shaken.
