Firewall performance

The performance of a firewall is tested under different traffic loads when considering different metrics to evaluate the firewall performance. The metrics are as follows:

  • Throughput: This is the actual payload that is received per unit of time
  • Delay: This is the transit time for a packet to be transmitted from the source to the destination
  • Jitter: This measures the variation in delay of the received packets
  • Packet-loss-rate (PLR): This is the ratio of the lost packets to the total transmitted packets
