Customizing the .xinitrc Startup Script

The .xinitrc, or X initialization script, is a file used by the xinit command (started by the startx command) to configure your X session, or to start other window managers and clients. The default initialization script is found under the /etc/X11/xinit directory. If you customize this file as the root operator, any changes are systemwide and affect all users. To make individual changes, copy xinitrc to your home directory with .xinitrc as the file's name by entering the following:

# cp /etc/X11/xinit/xinitrc $HOME/.xinitrc
