Adding a Hard Drive
Linux comes with several programs that you'll need when adding a hard drive. For configuring, formatting, and mounting storage devices for Linux you can use the fdisk, mke2fs, and mount commands.
Install your drive properly
Before configuring a drive for Linux, follow your computer manufacturer's instructions for properly installing the hardware. Make sure that all cables are correctly connected and that any switch configurations are made to match the drive to your existing system. If you've installed a SCSI drive, make sure that all cables are firmly attached and that the SCSI chain is properly terminated.
