Using Linux Dictionaries

Correct spelling is an important part of writing and word processing, and spelling errors can be embarrassing. Most Linux distributions come with several tools to check spelling or look up words in the system dictionary, usually found under the /usr/dict directory (type whereis linux.words at the command prompt to verify this).

The default system dictionary, words (which could be a symbolic link to the file linux.words under the /usr/dict directory), contains more than 45,000 correctly spelled words in an alphabetical list.
