What is capacity management?

A general dictionary defines ‘capacity’ in two ways: the maximum or optimum amount that can be produced; or the ability to hold. In ITIL, capacity management is part of the service design phase of the core lifecycle that handles IT capacity for current and future business requirements. It ensures that the required capacity exists in the IT infrastructure to handle growing business demands.
