Design IoT systems that are resilient

The 2017 MITRE Report Cyber Resiliency Design Principles define cyber resilience as the ability to withstand, recover from, and adapt to adverse conditions, stresses, attacks, or compromises to cyber resources. The report lays out a series of design principles that can be applied to IoT system developments.

The MITRE Principles include:

  • Strategic principles to inform an organization's risk management strategy
  • Structural design principles aimed at enhancing the resilience of systems

Structural design principles include planning and managing for diversity, limiting the need for trust, containing and excluding behaviors, and maintaining redundancy, among others.
