Congestion control

Congestion control should also be considered, depending on the types of data flowing through your system. If critical command and control data must be received in near-real time by your IoT devices, then that data should likely take priority over routine instrumentation data.

There are capabilities built directly into protocols such as IP and IPv6 that allow you to implement Quality of Service (QoS) controls within your data flows. If you monitor your network for signs of congestion, then differentiated/prioritized services can be executed when congestion becomes a concern, so that important traffic is given priority over less important traffic.
