Initiation

The initiation act begins with the hero stepping into the unknown, where he faces trials, either alone or with the assistance of helpers. The hero proceeds into his adventure until a crisis of some sort puts him to the test. He must undergo the ordeal and eventually overcomes the main obstacle or enemy. This is the apotheosis where finally the mission is accomplished and the hero can get his reward.

But the journey's not over. The hero must return to the ordinary world now. He may be pursued by the guardians from the new world, or he may be reluctant to return at all:

  1. The road of trials: The hero undertakes a series of tests and begins his transformation. Usually the hero experiences failure.
