Chapter 4Prediction Queries with Time Series

Data mining models based on the Time Series algorithm also support Prediction queries. Most mining algorithms use new data (through a prediction join) to make predictions. The Time Series algorithm is an exception—its predictions (that is, forecasting future trends) are based on existing data and not on new data. Therefore, a prediction join is not required to analyze new data against existing content data. The predictions are generally extrapolations of existing figures and trends. There are two minor exceptions to this rule—EXTEND_MODEL_CASES and REPLACE_MODEL_CASES (these are not available in SSAS 2005), which can be used to simulate new data. This chapter concentrates on DMX Prediction queries ...
