Bugzilla

Bugzilla can be said to be the grandfather of all the issue tracker systems described in this chapter. Bugzilla has been around since 1998 and is in use by many high-profile organizations, such as Red Hat, the Linux kernel project, and the Mozilla project. If you have ever reported a bug on one of these products, you have likely already encountered Bugzilla.

Bugzilla is free software maintained by the Mozilla project, which also produces the well-known Firefox browser. Bugzilla is written in Perl.

Bugzilla focuses, unsurprisingly, on tracking bugs rather than handling other issue types. Handling other types of tasks, such as providing a wiki, needs to be done separately.
