Foreword

As the email asking for a foreword dropped into my email account, I was being asked my opinion on a migration strategy for moving from one HR system to another. There were several hundred thousand resource records. One major driver for this system change was that the user community did not trust the system — too many data quality issues.

As I listened, I feared that all the data problems and issues would be migrated across in all their nastiness. The result would be a continuation of poor management information and of the culture of mistrust. This was not the desired result. It was not listed in the business benefits the Board would expect after they had agreed to spend several million on this system change.
