INTRODUCTION

First of all you have my sympathy. But be of good hope. This is not an isolated incident. At least half my career has been spent parachuting into data migration projects that have gone wrong and trying to get them up and running again.

There are three phases of activity that need to be worked through:

  • Stabilization: Stopping the situation getting worse, getting on top of the firefighting and creating an environment where a more considered approach can be adopted.

  • Planned activity: Working in a more controlled way through a series of releases or iterations that will deliver measurable and perceivable improvements to the situation.
